Suburban championships: The Suburban League championship is scheduled for Tuesday at the Canfield Fairgrounds, with the first race slated to begin at 4:30 p.m. Forty-two schools are scheduled to compete. Four of the top six runners in the boys 2007 race graduated, so the top spot individually is up for grabs with Lakeview’s Tyler Ames (15:59) and Boardman’s Sam Deskin (16:45) among the favorites. The Spartans are the defending team champion. Returning for the girls run will be defending champ Samantha Hamilton (19:30) of Jackson-Milton, along with the Lowellville’s Monica Ciarneillo (19:53), Boardman’s Lauren Agnew (19:55) and East Palestine’s Leighann Kelvington (20:18), who finished 2-4, respectively. It should be a close run with Boardman’s Katie Heney, Mooney’s Christine Oles, Columbiana’s Stephanie Case and Fitch’s Shannon Rech among the contenders. The varsity boys run is set for 4:30 p.m., followed by the girls race at 5 and the middle school races at 5:35 and 5:55, respectively.
