Dinner to raise funds for service dog project
AUSTINTOWN — The Christian and Hoover Foundation is sponsoring a mostacholi dinner to raise funds to pay for Hoover, a service dog that has been trained to respond to seizure activities of Christian, a 10-year-old-boy struggling with epilepsy.
Dinners will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Gatsby Restaurant, 54 Westchester Drive. The cost is $7 a plate.
Tickets will be sold for $1 or six for $5 for a 50-50 raffle, and there will be a Chinese auction and silent auction for such items as boxing memorabilia, Holiday Inn Hotel accommodations, and an autographed book authored by Jim Tressel. Winners do not have to be present for the drawing.
Guests will include Stimey the Clown, a training representative from New Hope Dog Kennel accompanied by a trained dog, and Christian and Hoover.
Donations will be gratefully accepted if sent to First Place Bank, c/o the Christian and Hoover account, or marked for Christian and Hoover and mailed to New Hope Dog Kennel, 3 Scott Run Road, Warren, Pa 16365.
Flea market, bake sale at Christian Church
WARREN — Central Christian Church, 2051 E. Market St., will sponsor a flea market and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday featuring vendors in 20 booths and a food concession by ladies of the church. Funds from a Christian education table will provide programs for children and youth of the congregation.

Steak dinner planned
JACKSON CENTER, Pa. — Braised steak dinners will be available beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday at Vincent Methodist Church on Walnut Street. Meals will include potatoes, coleslaw, vegetable, desssert and beverage.
The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children 10 years of age and younger.
Motorcycle Run
AUSTINTOWN — A motorcycle run and dinner have been scheduled for Sunday as a benefit for the family of Scott Mayesky. Registration will be at 10 a.m. at Glorious Homes Inc., 14 N. Anderson Ave., and the first bike out will be at 11:30. The three-hour run will end with a dinner and Chinese auction at the Open Hearth, 207 Steel St.
The cost for the run is $25 per couple or $15 a single. Maps and police escort will be provided as needed. Tickets for carryout dinners will be available for $10. Forum plans garden show
YOUNGSTOWN — “September Song” will be the theme for a garden and horticulture show to be sponsored by the Garden Forum of the Greater Youngstown Area on Saturday and Sunday at Fellows Riverside Gardens. Entry time will be from 8 to 10:30 a.m., and rules are available at the reception desk. Viewing hours for the public will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Welcome dinner set by U.N. Association
YOUNGSTOWN — An international student welcome dinner has been planned by the Youngstown Area Chapter of the United Nations Association. The event will be Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave., where doors open at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6.
All UNA-USA members, friends and guests are invited to share in welcoming new international students. Those attending are asked to donate $10 or to take a dish of food to share.

Area CVS pharmacy stores are conducting an in-store promotion from now until Sept. 27 to raise funds for the support of Easter Seals projects and programs
The CVS Caremark All Kids Can Program invites patrons to purchase a CVS Essence of Beauty mesh sponge for $2.99 each. A portion of each sale will be donated to Easter Seals in order to make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties.
