URSULINE vs. MASSILLON
URSULINE vs. MASSILLON
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Where: Stambaugh Stadium
Notebook: The Fighting Irish are off to a great start in their bid to return to the Division V state championship game, averaging just over 48 points per game. Their toughest challenge of the season — so far — awaits in the Tigers, who are 2-1, who have wins over Akron Buchtel and Parma Normandy and a loss to Jordan (Utah) in the Herbstreit Classic. Massillon’s hit 45 points in its two wins but also allowed 70 points. J.T. Turner has 424 yards rushing for the Tigers, QB Mike Clark is 21-of-39 for 390 yards, and Bo Grunder has caught eight passes for 149 yards and four TDs.
BOARDMAN vs. UNIONTOWN LAKE
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Where: Lake High School Stadium
Notebook: The Spartans are favorites in their first Federal League test of the season. Boardman has been almost unstoppable in three straight wins — with the only caveat being they’ve come against three winless opponents. That changes this week — Lake is 2-1, but coming off a 24-17 loss against Canton McKinley. The Blue Streaks feature a run-oriented attack with Ryan Christiansen and Jim Luther sharing the bulk of the carries.
FITCH vs. CANTON McKINLEY
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Where: Fitch Falcon Stadium
Notebook: The Falcons are 3-0 and haven’t scored less than 35 points in a game this season. They open Federal League play against the 1-2 Bulldogs, who started last week with a win over Lake. McKinley was outscored 58-23 in two losses to start the season against Solon and Indianapolis Central.
COLUMBIANA vs. CRESTVIEW
When: 7 p.m. Friday
Where: Crestview Rebel Stadium
Notebook: Start with two rivals, a combined record of 5-1 and two defenses that are allowing just 13 points per game and it makes for a great start to the Inter Tri-County League season. The Rebels have won three straight on the road to start the season, including a 55-20 victory at Oak Glen (W. Va.) last Friday. RB Corey Hill has 519 yards rushing and 8 TDs. The Clippers have only a loss to Leetonia marring their start. RB Brian Warchol has 308 yards on the ground and two others have over 100 yards. QB Jon Ritchey’s rushed for 119 yards but he’s completing just 34.3 percent through the air.
SHARPSVILLE vs. WEST MIDDLESEX
When: 7 p.m. Friday
Where: West Middlesex High Stadium
Notebook: The Big Reds are 2-0 but had a bye in the first week of the District 10 season. Kyle Allen has rushed for 404 yards and 5 TDs in the first two weeks, while Mark Saylor and Logan Mihalcak each have 100 yards. The Blue Devils are 1-1 overall and 1-0 in D-10, with a 35-22 win over Conneaut Lake last Friday.
