‘Rainbow of Ribbons’ will be fundraiser
YOUNGSTOWN — The A Way With Words Foundation Inc. is sponsoring its first “Rainbow of Ribbons” 5K race and fun run at 10 a.m. Oct. 5 downtown.
The event will begin and end at Buffalo Wild Wings, and the R.O.C.c.K. Children’s Choir will perform.
Registration begins at 9 a.m., the 5K race begins at 10, and the Fun Run will begin at 10:15.
Brenda Rider, co-founder of the A Way With Words Foundation, Inc., wrote the song “Rainbow of Ribbons,” which has become the official Relay For Life song of the American Cancer Society. In keeping with the theme that the Foundation deals with all cancers, the rainbow of colors designates the concern for all those who have been touched by cancer.

Church dinner set
YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning United Methodist Church, 2214 Mahoning Ave., will serve Swiss steak dinners from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets will be sold at the door. Meals are $8 for adults, $3 for children 7 to 12, and free for those under 7. Takeouts will be available.
Canfield gathering
CANFIELD — “Needs of Caregivers” will be the topic of discussion when SOAR, Canfield Gathering, meets for a free brunch at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 550 N. Broad St. Guests are welcome.
Senior fashion show at McGuffey Centre
YOUNGSTOWN — Associated Neighborhood Centers, McGuffey Centre, 1649 Jacobs Road, will host a senior fashion show and brunch from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today. There will be bingo and prizes. The donation is $5.

Workshop for seniors will take place at church
YOUNGSTOWN — The Janie Wright Mission of the Union Baptist Church, 528 Lincoln Ave. will host its second workshop geared to senior citizens.
The workshop will take place from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday. “The Joy of Good Health” will be presented by June Ewing, and a nutritious dinner will also be served.
