Walk for a healthy heart

Walk for a healthy heart

EDITOR:

Each year, heart disease and stroke claim more than 927,000 American lives — more than any other disease. What’s more, these diseases don’t discriminate; people of all ages are at risk.

The American Heart Association is working to diminish this risk. Spreading life-saving knowledge and advancing groundbreaking medical research are two ways the association is helping Americans lead stronger, longer lives.

Chances are heart disease or stroke has touched your life in some way, affecting you or someone you know. Now you can fight back by participating in this year’s Youngstown Start! Heart Walk.

As the CEO of Humility of Mary Health Partners, I support our company’s involvement in the Heart Walk. We encourage all our employees to show their support on Saturday, Sept. 20, at Youngstown State University.

Many other area businesses, including Forum Health, Salem Community Hospital, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, to name a few, will participate but our competition isn’t against other teams. Rather, we’re walking together against heart disease and stroke. It’s said there’s strength in numbers; with each additional participant, we’re that much closer to winning this competition. Anyone and everyone are invited to join in.

American Heart Association-funded research has yielded many important discoveries such as CPR, life-extending drugs, pacemakers, bypass surgery, the heart-lung machine and surgical techniques to repair heart defects.

Help us fund more discoveries that may save the life of someone you know. Join us on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 9 a.m. at Youngstown State University. Help us make a difference today so more people can call themselves survivors tomorrow.

Please call 330-318-1002 or visit http://heartwalk.kintera.org/youngstownoh for more information.

Payday lenders help people; support repel of H.B. 545

EDITOR:

In my time in the payday lending industry I have been blessed to be able to help so many people. Everyday the affordable short term loans we provide help meet the needs of people that spring up before the next paycheck comes. From birthday presents to car repairs, our loans help people get what they need.

If that doesn’t sound evil to you, it’s because it isn’t, not that you would be able to tell from the way the state legislature is acting. By passing H.B. 545 they have virtually assured that I will soon be out of a job. The restrictions in that law upon payday lenders are so great that we soon won’t be able to afford to continue as a business.

If that law is allowed to go into effect Ohio can count on over 6,000 more people who no longer have jobs. This time the culprit won’t be declining industry or international competition, but our very selves. Let’s not let this happen. Let’s defeat H.B. 545.
