Teachers’ strike ends in Newton Falls

NEWTON FALLS — Newton Falls teachers will be in classes Thursday after reaching a tentative agreement with the school board, ending a four-day strike.

At the suggestion of the teachers, the two sides agreed to enter binding arbitration. Details behind that are still being worked out.

Scott Kernen, chief negotiator for Newton Falls Classroom Teachers Association, said, “The teachers will be in classes first thing tomorrow morning.”

Kernen and NFCTA president Peggy Guiliano met privately with Superintendent Dave Wilson earlie this afternoon and proposed binding arbitration as a resolution. Wilson accepted that proposal as well as the board. The strike began Sept. 5.
