Beaver Local teachers set to go on strike Sept. 22

ROGERS — The Beaver Local Board of Education has received a notice that teachers plan to strike at 3:30 a.m. Sept. 22.

Assistant Superintendent Elaine Humphrey said today the board and teachers, members of Beaver Local Education Association, are also tentatively scheduled to negotiate with a mediator Sept. 17. The old three-year pact expired Aug. 31.

The two sides are also scheduled to meet in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court on Sept. 17.

The teachers filed an action contending the board released too much information about the state of negotiations to the public despite an agreement not to, and that some of the information released was incorrect.

The district hasn’t had a strike since 1990, Humphrey said. There are 146 members in the union.
