Soccer team falls at Siena, 2-1
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. — After being held scoreless for 68 minutes, Siena broke through to score two late goals to defeat the YSU soccer team Sunday, 2-1.
To avert a shutout, Jodi Bowlen (Fitch) scored in the final two minutes for the Penguins. Mariah Snyder (Ursuline) recorded three saves in goal for YSU.
Women’s golf
LEWISBURG, Pa. — The YSU women’s golf team finished second and freshman Samantha Formeck was medalist Sunday at the Bucknell Invitational golf tournament.
As a team the Penguins finished in second shooting a 619 (314-305), nine strokes behind Penn State for the top spot.
Making her collegiate debut for YSU, Formeck fired a plus-eleven 147 (73-74), two strokes better than second place finisher Brianna Malcolmson from Penn State.

Peterman selected
YOUNGSTOWN — Dale Peterman of Ursuline High had his hand in a little of everything Saturday to be selected the Steel Valley Conference football player of the week.
Peterman collected two tackles, intercepted a pass, returned a fumble 61 yards for a touchdown, returned four punts for 24 yards and caught three balls for 80 yards.

CANFIELD — Canfield goalkeeper Anokha Padubidri made seven saves.
Becky McKown, Amber Seaman and Kylee Kolesar scored for Mentor.

NILES — Aaron Karson and Tom Stark scored goals and Stark tacked on an assist for the Leopards (3-1).
Niles is 2-3.
MVC selections
ST. LOUIS — Larry Warner of Southern Illinois and Mike McElroy of Southern Illinois and Taylor Rowan of Western Illinois were named players of the week in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Warner had a career-high 151 yards and scored two touchdowns, one of which came on a 95-yard kickoff return, to lead No. 12 Southern Illinois over Hampton, 37-31.
McElroy had two interceptions, recovered a fumble and had five tackles for the Salukis.
Rowan had nine extra points, setting a Championship Subdivision record with 129 consecutive PATs made.

Dynamo top Wizards
HOUSTON — Nate Jaqua scored two goals and Kei Kamara had two assists to lead the Houston Dynamo to a 3-1 victory over the Kansas City Wizards in the MLS on Sunday.
Brad Davis also scored and Tony Caig made one save for Houston (10-5-8), which won its fourth straight home game to increase its lead in the Western Conference.
Haskins dies
EL PASO, Texas — Don Haskins, credited with helping break color barriers in college sports in 1966 when he used five black starters to win a national basketball title for Texas Western, died Sunday. He was 78.
Texas-El Paso spokesman Jeff Darby said the Hall of Fame coach died Sunday afternoon. He had no other details. UTEP was previously known as Texas Western.
Castroneves wins
JOLIET, Ill. — For nearly two hours Sunday afternoon, Helio Castroneves did everything in his power to deprive Scott Dixon of a second IndyCar Series championship.
The determined Brazilian came from last place to lead the most laps and win the PEAK Indy 300 at Chicagoland Speedway in a photo finish — and it wasn’t enough.
The 28-year-old Dixon, driving for Target Chip Ganassi Racing, held a seemingly insurmountable 78-point lead heading into the last three races of the season.
