High School Soccer \ News and notes

Fair question: A reader asked this question: Every week The Vindicator runs a brief story about the Steel Valley Conference football player of the week. When will the paper write up the soccer player of the week in the various local leagues? Answer: When leagues send in their selections, they will be publicized. Forward the soccer POTW picks to sports@vindy.com.

Just an idea: Now that the Major Indoor Soccer League has dissolved, it looks like it will be replaced by two new fledgling pro leagues. Since the local Chevrolet Centre may have some dark dates this winter (see Youngstowns SteelHounds), wouldn’t it be nice to have somebody attempt to book a pro indoor soccer game there? Seems like a good fit.

Recognition: The Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association released its first weekly poll a few days ago. Three boys teams (Warren JFK, Poland and Cardinal Mooney) appeared in the top 10s and the Mooney girls were No. 1 in Division II.

Games of the week

Tuesday Boys: North Canton Hoover at Fitch, 7 p.m. (And the top team in the Federal League is?)

Boys: Howland at Canfield, 7 p.m. (Will go a long way toward deciding the AAC title)

Thursday Boys: Ursuline at Howland, 7 p.m. (Can the 4-0-3 Irish remain unbeaten?)

Girls: Canfield at Poland, 7 p.m. (Great game, regardless of the league)
