WARREN — The Youngstown State University Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Stephen Gage, will perform a free concert at 7 tonight at the Warren Community Amphitheatre.

Cookie-sales benefit for Big Brothers, Sisters

NILES — A local restaurant is giving Big Brothers Big Sisters Mahoning Valley a piece of their cookie for the next six weeks.

Max Erma’s restaurant, 5792 Youngstown-Warren Road, is donating 10 percent of its cookie sales to the organization today through Oct. 19 to help community children pair with supportive older mentors.

Customers can choose from a range of freshly baked Max Erma’s cookies, including chocolate chip, white chocolate, Macadamia nut or white Macadamia.

Max Erma’s is a 35-year-old, Columbus-based restaurant chain with more than 100 locations in the U.S.

Freedom Walks to honor those killed in attacks

SEBRING — Two local Freedom Walks to honor those killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and to support the American military will be in Sebring and Lake Milton this week.

The walks are being organized by Colton Lockner, son of Robyn and Gary Lockner of Lake Milton. He organized the first Sebring walk three years ago when he was 9.

The Lake Milton walk begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the corner of Grandview Road and Mahoning Avenue.

The Sebring walk begins at 6 p.m. Thursday at the B.L. Miller Elementary School.

KSU-Trumbull workshop for nonprofit groups

CHAMPION — The Grant Information Center at Kent State University Trumbull Campus will offer the “Your Board, Fundraising Fundraising Planning” workshop for nonprofit organizations from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday in the library.

The workshop presents information useful to 501(c)3 organizations.

Cost is $10, and participants can register by calling (330) 675-8809, going online at www.trumbull.kent.edu/library or stopping by the Technology Building between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The workshop is part of a series to guide nonprofit agencies in fundraising and proposal writing.
