The Niles S.C.O.P.E. Senior Center, 14 E. State St., will offer a three-week course devoted entirely to learning to use and navigate the Internet. The classes will be offered at the McKinley historical house computer lab and will take place from 9:30-11:30 a.m. for three Mondays in a row beginning Sept 15. All seniors 50 and over are eligible to attend. The cost is $10 total for the three sessions. Space is limited to eight participants. A seminar covering new Medicare enrollment guidelines will take place at the center from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 17. It is free and open to all seniors. The speaker is Debbie Zador, R.N., coordinator of Prescription Assistance for Seniors at S.C.O.P.E. of Trumbull County. The talk will cover Medicare Part D Review. The annual enrollment period is Nov. 15 to Dec. 31. Updated amounts, formulary, doughnut hole, low income subsidy and special enrollments will be covered. A question-and-answer period will follow the presentation. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for those wishing to eat. The cost is $5. Also planned at the center are: Monday, breakfast from 9 to 10:30 a.m. ($2), bridge and beginner bridge at 10, arthritis/flexibility exercises ($1) at 11, cards, quilting and sewing at 1 p.m. and Monday Night Cards with salad and sandwich ($2) from 4-8; Tuesday, square dancing ($3) at 9:30 a.m., lunch ($3 members/$4 nonmembers) at 11:30, 500 tournament (second round) at 1 p.m. and pinochle and other card games at 2:30; Wednesday, tai chi ($5) at 10 a.m., lunch ($3 members/$4 nonmembers) at 11:30, bingo and Texas Hold’em at 1 p.m., and players’ choice cards at 2:30; Thursday, line dancing ($3) at 9:30 a.m., lunch ($3 members/$4 nonmembers) at 11:30 a.m. and pinochle, bridge and other card games at 1 p.m.; and Friday, movies at 9 a.m., boccie at Waddell Park, weather permitting, at 9:30, beginner art class at 10, arthritis exercise ($1) at 11, potluck lunch ($2) at 11:30, cornhole games at noon, and hand and foot cards, other card games and mixed chorus sings at Briarfield at the Ridge at 1 p.m. also planned in September are: VIP September birthday party ($5), both on Sept. 17, and line dance classes ($3) Sept. 23 and 30.
Senior Independence Senior Center of Mahoning County, 1110 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, has planned the following activities: Monday, Men’s and Women’s Needlecraft Club at 8:30 a.m. Cancer Support Group at 10 and bridge at 1 p.m. ; Tuesday, oil painting at 10 a.m., computer class at 10 and noon, cornhole practice at 1:15 p.m. and digital club at 2; Wednesday, watercolor class at 10, computer class at 10 an noon, tai chi at noon and 500 cards at 1 p.m.; Thursday, woodcarvers and Watch Our Weight Club at 9 a.m., Diabetic Workshop at 10, exercise at noon and line dancing at 1 p.m.; and Friday, Texas Hold’em at 1 p.m. Home Energy Assistance Program applications are available at the center.
