Small fry love growing things

It looks as if we’ve got a lot of little gardeners out there!

Folks sent us photos of their gardens and of the gardeners. But the vast majority of contributors offered us a different aspect of gardening.

That’s the joy that youngsters find in seeing things grow.

Whether it’s a child on a ladder, marveling at the size of a sunflower or a baby tasting her first strawberry, straight from the plant, the pictures of children in the garden serve as yet another reminder of why so many folks find growing their own vegetables and fruits to be worthwhile.

Next month’s snapz!

We’ve already been getting a lot of submissions for the Vacation/Staycation Snapz pages for October.

These pictures will help to tell the story of what we did this summer, when gas prices were high and the weather in the area was generally mild.

Some people still went to the beach or to an amusement park. Others explored the delights of things closer to home.

We just want to see what you did for fun this summer, at home or on the road.

Be sure to tell us where the pictures were taken, who’s in them and a little background information. Hometowns of the people involved are also great to know.

This time, we’re celebrating a year of Snapz!

So, we’re looking to do something a little bit special. No, we can’t tell you yet, but we’ll let you know soon!

Let’s just say that somebody’s entry is going to be selected by the editors as the best of the lot and will receive special attention.

During the screening process for this month’s photos, we had a few submitted as prints and as jpegs through e-mail. After scanning the prints, we determined that the electronic version would look much better in print.

The lesson: If you already have a digital image, you’re better off e-mailing us the picture. If all you have is a print, send it on. We can use those, too.

The address: For e-mail, send large jpegs to features@vindy.com. We can use pictures straight out of your camera.

Snail mail: For prints, send material to Snapz! The Vindicator, P.O. Box 780, Youngstown, OH 44501.
