MERCER COUNTY Sentencings
Judges in Mercer County Common Pleas Court either sentenced these people to jail or placed them on probation last week. According to court documents:
Linzey Bailey, 21, of Pennsy Road, Volant, placed on two years’ probation for misdemeanor retail theft for stealing a $55 pair of shoes Aug. 15, 2007, from Brand Shoes, at the Prime Outlets, Pa. Route 208, Springfield Township.
Richard Beigley, 19, of Lamb Road, Jackson Center, sentenced to three to 23 months in the Mercer County Jail for a felony count of theft by unlawful taking and a misdemeanor count of unauthorized use of an automobile. On Oct. 17, 2007, he took another man’s Ford Mustang from a Barkeyville Road, Pine Township driveway without permission. The same day, he stole a Chevrolet Malibu from a Kilgore Road, Wolf Creek Township driveway, then crashed it at Centertown and Kelly roads.
Kayla Custer, 19, of Emerson Avenue, Farrell, sentenced to 30 days to one year in the Mercer County Jail for theft by deception, a misdemeanor. She is eligible for work release. On Dec. 19, 2007, she presented a $300 check on another woman’s account for payment at Citizen’s Bank, 3390 E. State St., Hermitage, knowing the signature was forged.
Dana Mastroianni, 26, of Linden Street, New Castle, placed on two years’ probation and fined $200 for theft by unlawful taking and retail theft, both misdemeanors, and an additional count of retail theft, which is a summary offense. On Oct. 24, 2007, she stole $254 worth of plants, decorations and lawn and garden items from Wal-Mart, 1275 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage. On Nov. 24, 2007, she took another woman’s purse containing $400 cash and a driver’s license from Giant Eagle, 2365 E. State St., Hermitage. And on Jan. 4 this year, she stole $464 worth of shoes, household items and clothing from Sears, 3245 E. State St., Hermitage.
Andrew Clarke, 32, of Victory Drive, Sharpsville, sentenced to 11 to 23 months in jail followed by five years’ probation for aggravated assault, a felony. On July 17, 2007, he tried to stab his mother, Geraldine Anderson, with a knife in the parking lot of Giant Eagle, 2365 E. State St. Hermitage. Anderson had come to pick her son up in response to his request, when he attacked her. She managed to pull the knife away, bloodying her hand.
Raymond Foster Jr., 42, of Locust Street, Masury, Ohio, placed on two years’ probation for simple assault, resisting arrest, obstruction of administration of law and disorderly conduct. On Aug. 12, 2007, he kicked a Pennsylvania State Police trooper in the chest at United Community Hospital, 675 N. Broad St., Grove City. The trooper was trying to get Foster out of the cruiser and onto a gurney, but Foster refused to leave the vehicle and follow the officer’s orders.
Shawn Garland, 28, of Quinby Street, Sharon, placed on one year’s probation for misdemeanor harassment. He telephoned a woman at a Pine Township residence 14 times March 17, 2008, and repeatedly used obscenities to refer to the woman and her daughter.
Mary Kieper, 41, of Baldwin Avenue, Sharon, placed on one year’s probation for theft by unlawful taking, a misdemeanor, for stealing $34 worth of health-care items June 12, 2007, from Wal-Mart, 1275 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage.
Brian Lacamera, 40, of Fruit Avenue, Farrell, placed on three years’ probation for receiving stolen property, a misdemeanor. He possessed a stolen aluminum carport and dryer worth $2,200 at a North Hermitage Road address in 2007.
Tammy McQuay, 50, of Creek Road, Volant, sentenced to 90 days to 12 months in jail followed by four years’ probation for flight to avoid apprehension, a felony, and recklessly endangering another person and a second driving under the influence offense, both misdemeanors. She struck a Mercer police officer with her vehicle in the parking lot of Sheetz, 105 N. Erie St., Mercer, on March 28, 2008, and almost hit three juveniles. She also hit Moore in the face and tried to bite him.
Mohammed Mohammed, 35, of Cleveland, Ohio, placed on three years’ probation for an accident involving damage to attended vehicle and recklessly endangering another person, both misdemeanors. On July 21, 2007, Mohammed was involved in an accident at Pa. Routes 318 and 60 in Shenango Township, which resulted in the death of motorcyclist William Schell III. Although Mohammed stopped and helped others to lift a vehicle to free Schell, he then got back into his van and left the scene.
Whitney Smith, 19, of Euclid Avenue, Sharon, resentenced to three to 12 months in the county jail on an earlier conviction for false reports to law enforcement officers, a misdemeanor. Smith was resentenced for failing to abide by the terms of her probation including failing to have a drug and alcohol evaluation. She was sentenced in May to one year’s probation. Smith was convicted of claiming she had been raped but later admitting she lied.
