Akron 42, Syracuse 28
SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Chris Jacquemain threw three touchdown passes, including a 12-yarder to Andre Jones midway through the fourth quarter to break a tie. For the Zips (1-1), coming off a 38-17 loss at No. 11 Wisconsin, it was only their second win over a BCS conference team. They upset North Carolina State two years ago. It was the first of four straight home games for the Orange (0-2), who dropped to 7-30 under coach Greg Robinson, in his fourth year and under intense pressure to turn around a program that has not had a winning season since 2001. Jacquemain was 20-for-26 for 260 yards, Alex Allen gained 103 yards on 21 carries and scored twice, and Dennis Kennedy had 89 yards rushing and scored once for Akron.

PITTSBURGH — LeSean McCoy scored on three short runs and Pittsburgh managed to avoid losing at home to a Mid-American Conference school for the second week in a row, driving for two touchdowns in the second half. Bill Stull was 22-of-33 for 241 yards and his throwing set up all three McCoy scores as Pitt (1-1) won despite trailing 6-0 at the end of the first quarter, leading 10-9 at halftime and 17-16 at the end of the third quarter.
