NTSB: Plane got maintenance before crash
COLUMBUS (AP) — The National Transportation Safety Board says a cargo plane had received extensive routine maintenance before it crashed in Ohio, killing all three crew members.
Air safety investigator Jim Silliman said Thursday that maintenance on the plane owned by cargo transporter Air Tahoma was not unusual given its age.
The twin-engine 1956 Convair 580 crashed Monday after leaving Rickenbacker International Airport in Columbus.
Silliman said the pilot called flight control to request permission to return to Rickenbacker for an emergency landing, but the pilot did not specify what the problem was.
The safety board will not release the name of the pilot until it completes the investigation, which could take 15 months.
Killed were 58-year-old Urs Anderegg of Miami; 57-year-old James Monahan of Plantation, Fla.; and 41-year-old Sean Gardiner of Miami.
