YOUNGSTOWN — The Historic Lutheran Church of St. John, 1429 Mahoning Ave., will sponsor an all-you-can eat breakfast buffet Sunday from 11 a.m. until the food runs out .

On the menu will be “Cindy’s Famous” strata, scrambled eggs, pancakes, Amish bacon, fried potatoes, assorted breakfast rolls, fresh fruit cup, juice and other beverages. The meal will be served in the Colonial Room.

The cost is $6.95 for adults, $3.50 for children 6 to 12 and free for those 5 and under.

Civil War Roundtable will resume in Mercer

MERCER, Pa. — On Tuesday, the Mercer County Historical Society will resume its monthly Civil War Roundtable at the society’s headquarters, 119 S. Pitt St.

The group will plan events and programs for the 2008-09 season. Lt. Col Ralph T. Dorman (Ret.), a Civil War enthusiast who has visited the majority of major Civil War battlefields, will discuss the Battle of Antietam.

The doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the program will begin at 7 and should end around 9 p.m.

Vendors are sought for coalition yard sale

YOUNGSTOWN — The 7th Ward Citizens Coalition is looking for vendors for its annual yard sale.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 13 at Ipe Field on Midlothian Boulevard.

The proceeds go toward an annual scholarship.

Lupus Loop fundraiser needs participants

The local branch of the Lupus Foundation of Pennsylvania is preparing for a fundraiser, the Lupus Loop 5K Walk, on Sept. 20 at Roche Park, off Route 19 in Vernon Township.

This event is the major fundraiser for the Erie Branch of the Lupus Foundation of Pa. The branch services Crawford, Elk, Erie, Forest, McKean, Mercer, Potter, Venango and Warren Counties.

Individuals or teams can participate in the Lupus Loop. Five people qualify as a team. Participants can pay a $20 registration fee or collect pledges of $20 or more. Prizes are available for pledges raised over the $100, $200 and $300 levels. The three top pledge raisers and top three teams will receive prizes and recognition.

Each participant will receive a long-sleeved Lupus Loop T-shirt and be treated to a casual breakfast and a lunch after the walk. Massage therapists will give free massages.

New Jerusalem will offer food-tasting extravaganza

WARREN — New Jerusalem Fellowship Church, 2555 Palmyra Road S.W., will have “A Taste of New Jerusalem’s Best of the Best” food-tasting extravaganza at 1 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Renaissance Place, 1952 Palmyra Road.

The cover charge of $10 allows guests to sample the best food prepared by the church’s best cooks. Awards will be given in each category.

Independent judges will be James “Doc” and Ann Pugh of RBG Eatery; Helen Rucker, councilwoman; the Rev. Samson Murry, pastor and connoisseur of fine food; Esther of Esther’s Restaurant; Thelma Holman of Eli’s; and Doug Franklin, Warren safety service director.

There will also be a People’s Choice award.

Educational seminar seating is limited

Dancing and wood carving at Salem building

SALEM — Salem Memorial Building, 785 E. State St., announces activities available on Tuesdays.

“Beginners Ballroom Dancing With Cues” will begin Oct. 7. The course will take place for five weeks on Tuesdays from 8 to 9:30 p.m. The cost is $25 per person, and advance payment is required. Partners are required to attend.

Team Triathlon scheduled

SALEM — The Salem Community Center has scheduled an Indoor-Outdoor Team Triathlon at 7 a.m. Sept. 21.

The cost is $6 per team. The triathlon consists of a 25-mile bike ride, 10K run and 1500-yard swim. Each team of three must have at least one female, and participants must be at least 15 years old. The registration fee is not refundable.

Taste of the Valley tickets are on sale

YOUNGSTOWN — The 17th Annual Taste of the Valley will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 5 at Stambaugh Auditorium.

All proceeds benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley.

Thirty of the Valley’s fine dining establishments will donate time and talent to present an array of appetizers, entr es, desserts and beverages for approximately 450 guests.

Tap dancing lessons

EAST LIVERPOOL — Catholic Charities Regional Agency’s Senior Center, 600 E. Fourth St., seeks adults who want to dance.

Free tap-dancing lessons take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Mondays at the center.

The lessons are for dancers of all levels. Street shoes are acceptable, but participants are encouraged to buy tap shoes as they gain the ability to dance in this style.
