Scrappers overcome error-prone ’Cutters

Tim Fedroff’s two-run triple led a seventh-inning rally for a 5-2 win over Williamsport.

NILES — The Williamsport Crosscutters were in a giving mood on Thursday night. The Mahoning Valley Scrappers were grateful.

The Crosscutters committed four errors, including two in a pivotal seventh inning, to help the Scrappers rally for a 5-2 victory in a New York-Penn League game in front of 3,624 fans at Eastwood Field.

Trailing 2-1 with two outs in the seventh, the Scrappers scored four runs on two hits, three walks, two wild pitches and two errors. The big blast came on a two-run triple by Tim Fedroff, driving in Ramon Hernandez and Isaias Velasquez.

The Scrappers got good pitching and even better relief as starter Zach Putnam gave up two runs in the first and shut down Williamsport over the next four innings. Brad Hinkle (who improved to 1-1) and Brian Grening (who got his second save) each pitched two scoreless innings of relief.

Velasquez scored twice and Fedroff had two hits.

Justin De Fratus (6-5) started and got the loss, giving up four runs (three earned) in 61‚Ñ3 innings.
