Pooch Pentathlon set Sunday at YMCA

BOARDMAN — It’s a test of strength, agility and endurance challenging man’s — and woman’s — best friend.

The Davis Family YMCA’s third annual Pooch Pentathlon begins at 1 p.m. Sunday at the family center’s outdoor pool complex.

The dogs will compete in five events showcasing their swimming and obedience skills:

Leap Dog tests the dog’s ability to jump the farthest.

In fetch, dogs must jump into the pool, retrieve the owner’s toy and bring it back.

Doggie Paddle challenges the dogs to swim a designated distance in the shortest amount of time.

At the Treasure Dive, dogs must submerge their heads below the water’s surface and retrieve a toy.

The obstacle course has dogs and owners working together to wind through the course of hoops, hurdles and cones.

Winners will be awarded in each division and event. A $5 dollar registration fee is required and all dogs must be kept on a leash. Proof of rabies vaccination must be presented before dogs will be admitted into the YMCA.

Other organizations in attendance during the pentathlon will be Tail Wagger’s 4-H Club, Angels for Animals, Precious Paws mobile grooming salon, K-9’s for Compassion, Canine Crusaders and Best Puppy Treats.

Invisible Fence of Eastern Ohio and The Spay/Neuter Clinic of Girard are event sponsors.
