Find security and support in trusting the Lord
In Psalm 37:5-7, Scripture reads, “Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in him and he will do it. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light and your judgment as the noonday. Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for him.”
In this portion of Scripture written by the psalmist King David, he relates to us much of the depth of his own heart. David, an imperfect man and king, depended upon and trusted the Lord with his life. The gems of wisdom learned are passed onto us in the precious Psalm, to be implemented into our lives. It is not, nor has it ever been the intention of our heavenly father for us to walk life’s journey without him. We are a people created in his own image and he desires to be with us, to speak to us, to help us and to strengthen us through our appointed time on earth. He is always there for us and as recorded in the scriptures, he is a “very present help in times of trouble.”
So often though we fail to fulfill the exhortation of the Scripture above in recognizing and applying the wisdom it contains to our daily life. When trouble comes, most of the time we react by taking control. This control can be motivated by frustration, anger or fear. Even the strongest of Christians are susceptible to this pitfall. Applying the principles contained in these Scriptures will help us to live a life of freedom, trust and rest. God never intended for us to carry the day’s problems and issues alone or in our own strength. God’s divine design from the beginning was to have relationship and fellowship with us. This can only come through a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. By accepting Christ we have access to God through him and all the strength and wisdom we need for our day is supplied.
Commit your way to the Lord and trust also in him. The word commit in Webster’s dictionary means to “put into charge of or entrust with.”
This is recognizing that we do not have all the answers. The only one with all of the answers is the Lord. He sees the way that is before us and he knows our path of life. To commit our life to the Lord Jesus Christ is simply to ask him to take control. It is accomplished in our hearts before it can become a reality in our lives. He is the God who is near “to the brokenhearted and his ears are open to their cry.”
When we live our lives depending upon ourselves because of a low trust factor in others, it can be difficult to trust the Lord. If that is the case, then our prayer should be, “Lord, I commit my way to you today.” One day at a time. He provides strength for today, come what may into our lives.
We all need to start somewhere or we will advance nowhere in our relationship with the Lord. If we will commit our way daily to the Lord Jesus Christ, he will see us through every circumstance life presents. And he will cause righteousness, which is our “right standing” with him to shine through to others. He will cause us to walk in his favor, which is his blessing to us because of our relationship with him. Our lives will exemplify the heart relationship we have with our heavenly father, through his son.
Finally, rest in the Lord and wait patiently for him. Settle down and lean on Jesus, allowing him to be your support in your time of need.
With trust comes rest, with rest comes spiritual refreshing and with spiritual refreshing comes expectation. See with new eyes today, wait patiently, watch and see what God will do for you.
For with God, nothing is impossible.
