HOWLAND — The public is welcome to attend the meeting of the Howland Local Schools Bond Issue Steering Committee at 7 p.m. today at the high school media Center, said Thomas Krispinsky, school district treasurer.

Baby taken from parents

LIBERTY — Trumbull County Children Services Child took custody of a 1-year-old found sleeping on the floor of a township hotel room.

Police and children services officials arrived at the Tallyho-Tel, 4249 Belmont Ave., on Sunday to find a child sleeping on an “extremely filthy” floor, police said. The hotel room was devoid of any clothing or food for the child, who showed signs of a cold, according to the report.

Neither parent could provide medical documentation for the child and told officers they had been traveling across several states recently.

No charges were filed, but police continue their investigation.

Death probe extended

LIBERTY — An investigation into a 911 response by police, linked to an elderly woman’s death earlier this year, has been extended to the end of September.

Richard Tisone, township police chief, said researchers at Kent State University delayed releasing their findings because further investigation, including interviews, must be conducted.

The trustees commissioned KSU Trumbull Campus’ Public Safety Training and Research Center in May to review actions by the department after Mary Rush, 87, died outside her home April 28.

Researchers are trying to determine whether the department properly handled a 911 call by a neighbor stating that cries could be heard near Rush’s home.

Rush, who suffered from a form of dementia, suffered severe cuts when she tried to break into a window of her home to gain entry. It was determined that she was locked out of her home when she died.
