5 juveniles arrested
NEW MIDDLETOWN — Five juveniles were arrested over the weekend in recent thefts from garages and cars, said Vincent D’Egidio, village police chief.
D’Egidio said he expects more arrests to be made. Police are continuing to investigate a rash of thefts that occurred in early August.
One of those arrested was charged with breaking and entering and possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia. The other four were charged with receiving stolen property.
Bomb report is false
AUSTINTOWN — The Giant Eagle on Mahoning Avenue was evacuated Sunday night after a caller said an explosive device had been placed in a restroom.
The call was determined to be a hoax because nothing unusual was found, Andrew Frost Jr., Austintown fire chief, said Monday.
Erik Yorke, a spokesman for the Pittsburgh-based grocery chain, said the store reopened after police and fire officials determined there was no threat, which took about 20 minutes.

The recall of “Cracked Pepper Style Smoked Salmon” lot number 54933-2 made by Trans-Ocean Products Inc. was announced recently.
According to a Food and Drug Administration news release, the presence of listeria monocytogenes was found by the company in routine testing of one package.
No illness from the product has been reported.
The smoked salmon was distributed to two other supermarket chains — Brookshire Brothers in Texas and Louisiana and Price Choppers in New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Vermont.
