Hoax briefly closes Austintown Giant Eagle

AUSTINTOWN — The Giant Eagle on Mahoning Avenue was evacuated Sunday night after a caller said an explosive device had been placed in a restroom. The call was determined to be a hoax because nothing unusual was found, Andrew Frost Jr., Austintown fire chief, said Monday. Erik Yorke, a spokesman for the Pittsburgh-based grocery chain, said the store reopened after police and fire officials determined there was no threat, which took about 20 minutes.
