“Prison Break” (8 p.m., Fox): Is it possible for “Prison Break” to become even more ludicrous? One can always hope. The drama opens its fourth season with a two-hour episode that has a very ticked-off Michael (Wentworth Miller) in Los Angeles looking to avenge Sara’s death.

“Gossip Girl” (8 p.m., The CW): Summer vacation in the Hamptons is coming to an end for the hot young hedonists of “Gossip Girl,” who return for another season of sex, lies and OMG moments. Yes, it’s all very over-the-top, but you know you love it.

“Raising the Bar” (10 p.m., TNT): Can esteemed producer Steven Bochco (”Hill Street Blues”; “NYPD Blue”) reinvigorate the legal genre the way he did the cop show? His latest drama, “Raising the Bar,” focuses on courtroom battles from both sides. Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Gloria Reuben and Jane Kaczmarek star.

Republican National Convention (10 p.m., multiple networks): President Bush is the featured speaker as the Republican National Convention kicks off. The major networks provide hourlong coverage beginning at 10 p.m. For more comprehensive coverage, seek out PBS and the 24-hour news cable outlets. John McCain is scheduled to accept the party’s nomination on Thursday.
