Lightning 5, Sabres 2

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Rookie Steven Stamkos scores his first two NHL goals and added an assist, and Olaf Kolzig made 29 saves in Tampa Bay’s win. Jussi Jokinen, Ryan Malone and Paul Ranger also scored for the Lightning, who have won for the third time in their past four games after starting the season with five losses. Tampa Bay also snapped a five-game losing streak against Buffalo.

Rangers 3, Thrashers 2

NEW YORK — Nikolai Zherdev had a goal and assist in the third period, and the Rangers fought off the slumping Thrashers. Zherdev gave the Rangers a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal early in the third period and then helped set up Dan Girardi’s winner with 6:27 left to give New York its fourth straight win. Markus Naslund also scored for the Rangers, who have won 10 of 13 (10-2-1). Kari Lehtonen bounced back from a 7-0 home loss to Philadelphia on Tuesday in which he allowed all the goals on 31 shots. He finished with 30 saves, but the Thrashers (2-6-2) dropped their fourth consecutive in regulation and fifth overall (0-4-1).

Flyers 3, Islanders 2, OT

PHILADELPHIA — Jeff Carter scored two goals, including the winner in overtime, and the Flyers edged the Islanders for their fourth straight win. Carter hammered in a rebound from the front of the left circle on a power play with 24 seconds left in the extra session. Mike Richards took the initial shot. Mike Knuble also scored and Martin Biron made 34 saves for the Flyers, who have rebounded from a 0-3-2 start. Bill Guerin and Andy Hilbert scored for the Islanders, who have dropped five straight games and six of their past seven.

Senators 2, Panthers 1

SUNRISE, Fla. — Dany Heatley and Chris Kelly scored third-period goals to help the Senators rally. The victory was Ottawa’s second in a row following a four-game losing streak. Florida beat the Senators 3-1 at Ottawa on Oct. 22. Keith Ballard scored for Florida, which lost consecutive games for the first time this season. The Panthers were shut out 4-0 at St. Louis on Saturday. Alex Auld, who played for Florida in 2006-07, made 25 saves for Ottawa. He was making his fourth consecutive start in place of the injured Martin Gerber. Tomas Vokoun stopped 29 shots for Florida.

Canadiens 2, Wild 1

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Francis Bouillon and Andrei Markov each scored for Montreal and the Canadiens killed off 10 Minnesota power plays to beat the Wild. Alex Tanguay assisted on both Montreal goals and Carey Price made 28 saves for the Canadiens.

Predators 3, Oilers 1

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Shea Weber had a goal and assist for the Predators. Patric Hornqvist and Martin Erat also scored for Nashville. Sheldon Souray scored for Edmonton. Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne, making his second start, won his first game of the season. He made 27 saves.
