WARREN — A Trumbull County grand jury indicted Vincent T. Coburn Jr., the 53-year-old Mecca man accused of shooting at a deputy after a domestic dispute at his Bazetta Road home Sept. 24, on two counts of felonious assault.

One of the charges relates to his actions toward his estranged wife, Linda, and the other relates to his actions toward county Deputy Brian Kaintz.

Kaintz and other deputies were called to 6067 Bazetta Road (also known as Hoagland Blackstub Road) by Coburn’s wife, who said her husband pointed a gun at her head and threatened her.

When officers arrived, they spoke to Linda Coburn, got her away from the area, and went to the back door of the home to talk to Vincent Coburn through a locked door.

Deputies observed Vincent Coburn putting a handgun in the back of his pants, then walking to the front door, where he held a rifle.

Kaintz yelled at Coburn to put down the gun, but Coburn fired it instead, causing Kaintz and Deputy Bruce Perry to fire back, a sheriff’s report states. The report isn’t clear on which gun Coburn fired.

Coburn walked back inside as deputies got closer, but returned to the front door again, still holding a gun, and fired again.

The two deputies fired back again, and Coburn fell into the doorway. No deputies were injured, but Coburn suffered three bullet wounds.

If convicted of the charges, Coburn could get more than 20 years in prison. The grand jury continued another case of felonious assault that is pending against Coburn.

The grand jury also returned an indictment Thursday for Michael A. Jones, 28, who listed addresses on Dover Road, Youngstown, and Compass West South, Austintown.

Jones faces six counts of felonious assault in a Sept. 23 incident at 1806 Youngstown-Warren Road in which he is accused of driving his pickup truck into a crowd of people.

Warren police said four women were having an argument in a parking lot of a car dealership on Youngstown-Warren Road between Woodbine and Oak Knoll avenues in which one woman hit another woman with a wrench several times.

Sometime after that, Jones drove his truck into a crowd containing some of the women and other people, police said.

Jones and two women were injured as the truck pinned some victims against a building, police said.

If convicted of the crimes, Jones could get up to 48 years in prison.

Coburn and Jones will be arraigned at 9 a.m. Nov. 7 before Judge Peter Kontos in common pleas court.
