Scouting report: John Carroll lost to Ohio Northern last Saturday, 21-14, while Mount Union rolled to a 55-0 win over Wilmington. Mount Union’s offense and defense was exceptional against Wilmington. The Purple Raiders had a lopsided 440-26 total yards advantage in the first half alone, and finished with a 550-53 margin. Senior QB Greg Micheli equalled his career-high with four touchdowns passing and also ran for a score — all in the first half. Micheli was 14-of-18 for 264 yards passing and had three runs for 82 yards, including a 60-yard scoring scamper. Senior RB Nate Kmic ran for two TDs and rushed for 94 yards in 14 carries. Junior WR Cecil Shorts III caught two TD passes as part of a four-catch, 75-yard performance. Junior DT Matt Williamson had a team-high seven tackles and a sack.

GENEVA (2-5) vs. BETHANY (2-5)

When: 1 p.m. Where: Bison Stadium, Bethany, W.Va. Series record: Geneva leads 26-7-1. Scouting report: Geneva is coming off a 42-19 win over St. Vincent, while Bethany spilled Waynesburg, 31-24. Geneva took a 28-0 lead but Bethany rallied for 19 unanswered points to cut the lead to nine points early in the fourth quarter. But Geneva scored twice in the final quarter to salvage the win. QB David Girardi completed 12 of 22 passes for 203 yards and a pair of TDs to lead Geneva, while Matt Barge rushed for 106 yards on 17 carries. Adam Chatlos was Girardi’s favorite target with 97 yards on five receptions. Geneva’s defense was led by Dan Terracciano’s 11 tackles. In Bethany’s win, freshman QB Chad Smith threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to sophomore RB Marcus Santini with 1:29 to play and the Bethany defense made it stand by forcing two turnovers in the final 68 seconds. Smith completed 21 of 38 passes for 315 yards and three TDs. His top target was junior WR Matt Cruse with seven receptions for 105 yards and one score. Eric Walker rushed for 113 yards in 14 carries. Junior safety David Abel led Bethany’s defense with 14 tackles.

GROVE CITY (4-3, 1-2 PAC) vs. WAYNESBURG (4-3, 1-2 PAC)

THIEL (1-6) vs. SAINT VINCENT (1-7)

Scouting report: Thiel lost to Thomas More last Saturday, 45-14, while Saint Vincent fell to Geneva, 42-19. Thomas More (6-1, 6-0 PAC) can win the PAC title and advance to the NCAA Division III playoffs by beating Washington & Jefferson Saturday.

ALLEGHENY (3-4, 2-2 NCAC) vs. WOOSTER (5-2, 3-1 NCAC)

When: 1 p.m. Where: John P. Papp Stadium, Wooster. Series record: Allegheny leads, 19-13. Radio-TV-Internet: WMGW-AM 1490 (Meadville), Teamline (audio-streaming). Scouting report: Allegheny lost to Kenyon 27-22 Saturday, while Wooster fell to Wabash, 45-24. Allegheny got strong performances from QB David Strawser and junior ILB Andy Schleihauf. In Strawser’s first start of the year, he was 14-for-22 passing for 185 yards and a touchdown, while Schleihauf led all Gators tacklers with 16 stops. Allegheny’s defense forced five turnovers. The Gators’ only offensive touchdown came on Strawser’s 60-yard strike to Mark Sutton. Terry Hartford and Pat Kahle each caught five passes for 69 and 37 yards, respectively, while Sutton had two catches for 74 yards and one TD.

HIRAM (2-5, 1-4 NCAC)

vs. OHIO WESLEYAN (1-6, 1-4 NCAC)

When: 1 p.m. Where: Selby Field, Delaware. Series record: Ohio Wesleyan leads, 5-3. Radio-TV-Internet: None. Scouting report: Hiram was thumped by Case Western Reserve, 50-14, last Saturday while Ohio Wesleyan lost to Washington (Mo.), 24-3. The Terriers were no match for No. 13-ranked (d3football.com) Case Western Reserve, which was led by QB Ron Whalen who completed 14-of-20 passes for 219 yards and three TDs. All three of his TD passes were to WR Tim Cowdrick, who had a game-high eight receptions for 81 yards and his three TDs. Hiram was led by senior two-time All-NCAC QB Trevor Henderson, who was 21-for-36 passing for 131 yards. In addition, junior QB Lee Sham (Kennedy Catholic) threw a 16-yard TD pass to freshman WR D’Andre Evans in the fourth quarter. Sophomore DB Nick Haigh had a game-high 12 tackles, including eight solo stops, to lead the Terriers.

LOCK HAVEN (0-9, 0-6 PSAC WEST) vs. SLIPPERY ROCK (4-5, 2-4 PSAC WEST)

When: 1 p.m. Where: N. Kerr Thompson Stadium, Slippery Rock. Series record: SR leads 38-12-1 Radio-TV-Internet: WISR-AM 680. Scouting report: Lock Haven lost to Gannon last Saturday, 26-0, while Slippery Rock fell to No. 6 California (Pa.), 31-10. The Vulcans engineered three straight touchdown drives in the second period and outgained The Rock in total yards by 386-247 behind a 212-191 rushing advantage and a 174-56 passing difference. Sophomore RB Ryan Lehmeier led Slippery Rock with a game-high 141 yards rushing in 13 carries, and also completed six of 16 passes for 49 yards with one interception. Senior RB Corey Manfull (United) scored for The Rock on a 4-yard run and finished with 48 yards rushing in 16 carries.

OHIO DOMINICAN (4-3, 2-2 MSFA MIDEAST) vs. WALSH (2-6, 0-3 MSFA MIDEAST)

Scouting report: Ohio Dominican defeated Taylor last Saturday, 24-6, while Walsh lost to Saint Francis, 52-12. Walsh was trailing 17-12 late in the first half, but Saint Francis scored twice in the final 2:46 before intermission and twice in the first 2:23 of the second half, to turn a five-point lead into a 33-point advantage. Saint Francis’ win was the 11th straight over the Cavs. Saint Francis had 524 yards of total offense to the Cavaliers’ 79 yards. Jeff Tallman led the Cavs with 69 yards rushing.

SAINT XAVIER (6-2, 3-0 MSFA MIDEAST vs. MALONE (5-1, 3-0 MSFA MIDEAST)

Scouting report: Both teams are riding impressive winning streaks. Malone contained Urbana to 127 yards of total offense last Saturday in a 22-6 win for its fifth straight victory. Saint Xavier defeated Marian (Ind.), 53-10, last Saturday for its sixth straight win after beginning the season at 0-2. Malone QB Billy Bob Orsagh has completed 132 of 203 passes for 1,746 yards and 17 TDs with just two interceptions. WR Chuck Deardorff has 36 receptions for 587 yards and six TDs, while WR Josh Settlemire (Howland) has 30 catches for 452 yards and four TDs. RB Joseph Peters has 460 yards rushing in 86 carries and five TDs with another TD by receiving. DB Dennis Thornton leads the team in tackles with 35 tackles while LB Chris Reynolds has 34 and DL Antoine Washington 32.
