Horse farm workshop

CORTLAND — The Trumbull Soil & Water Conservation District will have a horse farm workshop from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Trumbull Agriculture and Family Education Center, 520 West Main St.

The workshop will offer training on manure management, facility design, conservation options, rules and regulations, and water quality.

The SWCD has received a large number of new complaints recently regarding small farms or homesteads that have horses, said Mike Wilson, Trumbull SWCD executive director. That is part of the reason for the workshop, he said.

Cost of the workshop is $10, which includes a light lunch. Reservations are due by Tuesday with checks made payable to the Trumbull SWCD, 520 West Main St. Suite # 3 Cortland, Ohio 44410.

The Trumbull SWCD staff consists of engineers, geologists, biologists, and natural-resource trained, certified and educated individuals.

Campbell tax supported

CAMPBELL — Renewal of a 1 percent income tax is vital to the city’s future, said Mayor John Dill. Residents will vote on renewing the tax, which generated $687,000 in 2007, on Nov. 4.

This is not a property tax and is not a new tax. It is the city’s main source of income for the general fund, the mayor said.

One-fourth of the income tax, or about $170,000 in 2007, is earmarked for maintenance and operation of Roosevelt and Jackson parks.

The rest of the money, about $517,000 in 2007, goes to the general fund for operations and maintenance of municipal services, including police and fire department salaries, and as match money for economic development grants, the mayor said.

“We are already short personnel in the police and fire departments, and if the tax isn’t renewed, it will make the situation worse,” Dill said.
