CONGRESS | 17th, 6th and 14th Districts

Two candidates are running for the 17th and 14th Congressional District seats while three are running for the 6th District position. An (*) denotes incumbents.

17TH DISTRICT

DUANE GRASSELL (R)

Age: 51.

Address: 3645 Argonne St., Mogadore.

Employment: Akron school district math teacher and department chairman.

Education: A bachelor’s and a master’s degree in education from the University of Akron.

Family: Wife; a 7-year-old daughter.

Priority: To vote no on all unconstitutional spending and introduce legislation to eliminate all federal programs not mandated by the Constitution.

U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, the Democratic incumbent, didn’t respond to requests from The Vindicator to complete a candidate questionnaire.

6TH DISTRICT

RICHARD STOBBS (R)

Age: 62.

Address: 72311 Colerain-Mount Pleasant Road, Colerain.

Employment: Franklin County deputy recorder.

Education: A master’s degree in administration from Central Michigan University; a bachelor’s degree from Ohio University; an associate degree in law enforcement from Jefferson Community College.

Family: Wife, Jo Ann; four children.

Priority: Creating jobs in the district.

DENNIS SPISAK (Green)

Age: 49.

Address: 548 Poland Ave., Struthers.

Employment: A Struthers school board member.

Education: A master’s degree from The Ohio State University in 1989; a bachelor’s degree from Ohio University in 1981.

Family: Wife, Molly; daughter, Brittany; sons, Michael and Patrick.

Priority: To bring renewable solar and wind manufacturing jobs and companies to the district.

14TH DISTRICT

STEVEN LaTOURETTE* (R)

Age: 54.

Address: 782 Oak St., Bainbridge Township.

Employment: Congressman.

Education: A law degree from Cleveland Marshall College of Law in 1979; a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Michigan in 1976.

Family: Wife, Jennifer; five children, Sarah, Sam, Clare, Amy and Emma.

Priority: To pass legislation to reduce the burden on small businesses, create jobs in northeast Ohio, and lower taxes for the middle class.

BILL O’NEILL (D)

Age: 61.

Address: 119 Waverly Lane, South Russell.

Employment: A registered nurse at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights.

Education: A registered nursing license from the Huron School of Nursing in 2001; a law degree from Cleveland Marshal College of Law in 1979; a bachelor’s degree from Ohio University in 1969.

Family: Wife, Shaylah, deceased; four children, Shawn, Katie, Tiffany and Brandon.

Priority: To change the culture of Washington by standing up to special interests such as big oil and major banking.
