photogenic: The Ursuline Sisters HIV/AIDS Ministry Children’s Program has scheduled an artful fundraiser: a photographic art auction. Displaying some of the unique Youngstown-themed art that will be auctioned Saturday are, left to right, Cheryl Streb-Baran, clinic director; Jessica Sheppard, child and family program director; Brigid Kennedy, associate director; and Sister Kathleen Minchin, executive director.
YOUNGSTOWN — “Jazzy Blues and City Views,” a photographic art auction, is coming Saturday to the Ohio One Building downtown.
The fundraiser, hosted by the Ursuline Sisters HIV/AIDS Ministry Children’s Program, will feature framed and matted photographs, both historic and contemporary, with a Youngstown theme. They are donations from the Mahoning Valley Historical Society and local photographers.
The photos will be sold in a silent auction format, which will begin at 7 p.m. on the first floor. A live auction will follow.
For a $20 donation, guests will be wined and dined with hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, jazz music and possibly the largest cookie table Youngstown has ever experienced.
All proceeds from this event will benefit the Ursuline Sisters HIV/AIDS Ministry Children’s Program. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling (330) 793-0434.
The Ursuline Sisters HIV/AIDS Ministry began in 1993 with a spiritual support group for those living with HIV/AIDS, their families, friends and those grieving for their loved ones.
Ministry services for adults and children have grown to include a food pantry, a monthly meal, a clinic and children’s program, which serves children from the Mahoning Valley who are infected or affected by HIV/AIDS. This past year, the children’s program served more than 60 children. A holistic program of children’s support services, such as tutoring, child advocacy, crisis intervention, life skills, art therapy and recreational activities, are offered.
