Mass and dinner honoring Lancys mark their 50th


• POLAND — Edward and Doris Lancy, of 2341 Country Lane, marked their 50th wedding anniversary Oct. 4 with a Mass at St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church in Youngstown and a dinner for invited guests at the Bessemer Croatian Club in Bessemer, Pa., where their wedding reception took place 50 years ago.

In honor of the occasion, they received an Apostolic Blessing from Pope Benedict XVI.

Hosts of the celebration were the couple’s children, Dr. Edward and Gidget Lancy of Struthers, Sherri and Tom Jarvie of Chagrin Falls, and Janet and Ken George of Struthers, and their six grandchildren, Shane and Brooke Jarvie, Kory and Kyle George, and Sabrina and Ryan Lancy.

The celebration will conclude in December, when the couple take a trip to Las Vegas as a gift from their children.

Mrs. Lancy retired in 1996 from Struthers City Schools, where she was a teacher. She still teaches reading there part time.

Mr. Lancy retired in 1998 from Mahoning National Bank, where he was assistant vice president of consumer loans. He is a member of Struthers Gridiron and is a U.S. Army veteran.

The former Doris Tonya and Mr. Lancy were married Oct. 4, 1958, at St. Mary’s, where they are members.
