1-2 punch of Jarvis, Edelman paces KSU

OXFORD — Eugene Jarvis and Julian Edelman combined for five touchdowns and 263 yards rushing to lead Kent State to a 54-21 rout of Miami of Ohio Saturday.

Edelman had 158 yards rushing and one touchdown, while Jarvis had 105 yards and four touchdowns, to lead a rushing attack that netted 305 yards. Edelman was also 10-of-17 passing for 107 yards and one touchdown through the air to complement his rushing attack.

The Flashes (2-6, 1-3 Mid-American Conference) found themselves down 7-3 at the end of the first quarter, but exploded for 28 points in the second quarter, all courtesy of Jarvis.

The RedHawks (2-6, 1-3) were led by J.R. Taylor, who had 113 yards rushing, and by Clay Belton, who was 18-of-31 for 171 yards and a touchdown.

No. 20 Ball St. 38, E. Michigan 16

MUNCIE, Ind. — Nate Davis caught the first touchdown pass of his career and threw two more for Ball State. The Cardinals (8-0, 4-0), off to their best start in 43 years, struggled to score early but continued punishing their opponents with a defense that has allowed just three touchdowns in the past three games.

Eastern Michigan (2-6, 1-4), whose last game against a Top 25 team was a 55-0 loss to Michigan three years ago, averted a shutout on a 7-yard pass from Andy Schmitt to Jacory Stone on the final play of the third quarter.

Cent. Michigan 24, Toledo 23

TOLEDO — Ontario Sneed capped a 68-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run and Andrew Aguila kicked the extra point.

Alex Steigerwald brought Toledo (2-6, 1-3) within a point in the third quarter with a 35-yard field goal, followed by a Nick Moore touchdown following a 35-yard pass from quarterback Aaron Opelt that put Toledo ahead 23-17. Alex Steigerwald kicked the extra point.

Toledo jumped out to a 6-0 first quarter lead with two field goals by Steigerwald. But Central Michigan (6-2, 5-0) took the lead 7-6 on a 21 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Dan LeFevour to Bryan Anderson. Aguila kicked the extra point.

N. Illinois 16, Bowling Green 13

DEKALB, Ill. — Junior Mike Salerno kicked a 30-yard field goal with 12 seconds to play.

Salerno converted on three of four field goal tries for the day as the Huskies (5-3, 4-1) won their third straight and fifth in their last six games.

The Falcons (3-5, 1-3) led 13-10 late in the third quarter following an 18-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tyler Sheehan to wide receiver Marques Parks.

Salerno forced a 13-13 tie with 8:08 left in regulation with a 25-yard field goal. He got his final chance when defender Landon Cox blocked Nick Iovinelli’s punt and set up the Huskies at the Falcon 37 with 4:51 to play.
