DISTRICT ROUNDUP: Mathews wins; Warren Harding, West Branch and Southeast lose


Brent Jackson rushed for 219 yards as Mathews ended its season on a winning note.

WARREN — The Walsh Jesuit High football team scored 14 points in Friday’s second quarter and defeated Warren Harding 21-9 at Mollenkopf Stadium.

Walsh quarterback Kyle Snyder was a perfect two-for-two for 29 yards, but didn’t need to do much more to manage the game. Walsh amassed 180 rushing yards and held the Raiders to only 67. Snyder led the ground attack and finished with 68 yards on 21 carries and scored once.

Harding’s offense struggled under quarterback Aunre’ Davis, who led the team with 41 rushing yards on seven carries. Davis completed nine of his 22 pass attempts for 56 yards and was picked off once.

Marlington 26, West Branch 6

ALLIANCE — Trenton Howard scored a touchdown on an 80-yard run and returned a fumble 28 yards for another score. Howard led the Dukes (5-5, 3-4 Northeastern Buckeye Conference) with 108 yards on 11 carries.

Tyler Royer hit Allen Strouble for an 18-yard scoring toss and Tim Stinson for a 14-yard touchdown.

For the Warriors (5-5, 2-5), Mike Smith hit Jose Ulyselt with a 30-yard scoring pass. Smith completed 13-of-25 tosses for 164 yards. Chad Butcher caught five passes for 78 yards.

Mathews 32, Ledgemont 6

VIENNA — The Mustangs (6-4, 5-1 Eastern Suburban Conference) scored all their points in the first three quarters in cruising to the victory.

Brent Jackson of Mathews rushed for 219 yards on 19 carries, which included TD runs of 2, 10 and 92 yards and he also returned a kickoff 75 yards for a score. The Mustangs had 305 rushing yards on 38 tries. Ledgemont (3-7, 1-5) managed just 152 yards of offense.

Crestwood 41, Southeast 22

MANTUA — Crestwood scored 21 points in the second quarter in the Portage Trail Conference game.

Crestwood running backs Eric Head and Talon Stephens both scored twice and had 185 rushing yards between them.

Head finished with 101 yards on 17 carries and Stephens accumulated 84 on 15 attempts. Dakota Long added another 82 yards on 10 carries for the Red Devils.
