Vampyre’s Harp returns to Victorian theater
YOUNGSTOWN — The Vampyre’s Harp, a recital of haunting Gothic music played by Kirk Kupensky, will return to the Victorian Players Theater, 702 Mahoning Ave., for two shows: 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.
The Halloween-themed program includes readings of ghostly Gothic literature. Tickets are $10 ($8 for students and seniors). Call (330) 746-5455 for reservations.
Kupensky, a Mahoning Valley resident, is a classically trained harpist.
Over the years, he has found many rare 19th-century harp works with a Gothic theme. He combined them with more well-known piano transcriptions of the era to create The Vampyre’s Harp. To add to the Gothic effect, the harp is electrified and has an echoing effect.
The recital also uses stories and poems by Edgar Allan Poe, Lord Byron and others.
