Dana Symphony to perform Russian works

YOUNGSTOWN — The Dana Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Stephen L. Gage, will begin its season with a concert entitled “From Russia with Love” at 8 p.m. Monday at Ford Family Recital Hall, 260 W. Federal St.

The concert will feature compositions from three of Russia’s most prolific composers: Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Alexander Borodin and Dmitry Shostakovich.

The first half of the concert will conclude with baritone Allan R. Mosher singing Ravel’s “Trois Chansons de Don Quichotte Dulcin e” with the orchestra.

Mosher, a voice professor at Dana School of Music, has enjoyed success as an operatic and oratorio baritone soloist, and he has directed numerous opera productions at Youngstown State University and elsewhere. His performance at New York’s Carnegie Hall in J. S. Bach’s “Magnificat” was termed “exemplary” by the New York Daily News. He has also performed in Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall with the Manhattan Philharmonic in Haydn’s “Creation.”

Tickets are $6.50 and $4 (free for anyone with a valid YSU ID card) and are available at the DeYor box office or by calling (330) 744-0264.
