Miss Teen Louisiana arrested, loses crown
BOSSIER CITY, La. — Miss Teen Louisiana is losing her crown 11 days early after being arrested on charges of leaving a restaurant without paying and carrying marijuana.
Bossier City spokesman Mark Natale said Wednesday that police found 18-year-old Lindsey Evans’ pocketbook when they were called to a restaurant where four young women left Saturday without paying a $46.07 check.
He says her driver’s license and suspected marijuana were inside. Police arrested all four for theft when the group returned for Evans’ pocketbook, and three were booked on drug charges.
Sponsor RPM Productions, Inc. says Evans was stripped of the title Tuesday because of her arrest.
The next Miss Teen Louisiana will be crowned Nov. 1 at a pageant in Lafayette.
Julianne Hough ails after ‘Dancing’
LOS ANGELES — Julianne Hough took a trip to the hospital with stomach trouble after her performance on “Dancing With the Stars.”
The 20-year-old professional dancer, who’s partnered with “Hannah Montana” actor Cody Linley on the popular ABC dancing competition, went to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after the live results show Tuesday. The judges selected the pair to perform an encore of their jitterbug routine from Monday’s performance show.
“She was experiencing slight stomach pains all day that increased and the doctors thought it was best to have them checked out,” said Hough’s publicist, Cindy Guagenti. “But she didn’t collapse.”
Multiple contestants and professional dancers have sustained injuries this season.
Slovenia’s gift to queen: Lipizzaner stallion
LIPICA, Slovenia — Slovenia gave Britain’s queen a prized Lipizzaner stallion during her visit to this Alpine nation Wednesday — but she won’t be taking the horse home to meet the rest of the royal menagerie.
The 16-year-old horse, 085 Favory Canissa XXII, is so precious to the identity of this tiny nation of 2 million that Queen Elizabeth II decided to leave him in the care of the Lipica stud farm in western Slovenia. The meticulously trained horses are known for being able to perform highly stylized prancing, jumps and other moves.
“He’s a real stallion: Sometimes, he cannot concentrate on training because he thinks about mares all the time,” said the horse’s chief trainer, Igor Maver.
The symbolic gift becomes another addition to a tradition of feathered, furry or four-legged presents. In the past, the royals have been given sloths, tortoises, pygmy hippopotami — among other creatures.
Most end up in zoos and sanctuaries — so it seems fitting the latest addition will remain back at the stud farm for horses so ingrained in the national culture their image is stamped on coins.
FAA blames jet tires in crash that killed 4
COLUMBIA, S.C. — Federal aviation officials are saying the tires on the doomed Learjet that crashed last month in South Carolina shredded as the plane ran out of runway.
The crash killed four people and injured former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and celebrity disc jockey DJ AM.
The National Transportation Safety Board said Wednesday that very little rubber was left on the jet’s wheels and the brakes were severely damaged when the plane crashed on takeoff just before midnight Sept. 19.
The plane’s cockpit voice recorder has indicated that crew members thought a tire blew as they hurtled down the runway before failing to abort the takeoff.
Barker and DJ AM suffered severe burns in the crash. Both have been released from the hospital are expected to fully recover.
