Paul J. Gains* (D)
Age: 57.
Home: 7003 Harrington Ave., Boardman.
Education: Law degree from the University of Akron, 1982; bachelor’s degree in law enforcement administration from Youngstown State University, 1976; Ursuline High School, 1969.
Employment: Mahoning County prosecutor since 1997; previously a lawyer in private practice; before that, a Youngstown police officer for more than nine years.
Family: Brother, Randy of Youngstown.
Priority: Improving the efficiency of the criminal justice system; maintaining a high level of integrity and competence in the prosecutor’s office, free from the influence of special interests.
Martin E. Yavorcik
Age: 35.
Home: 7382 Glenwood Ave., Boardman.
Education: Law degree from Case Western Reserve University, 1998; bachelor’s degree from Youngstown State University, 1995; Cardinal Mooney High School, 1991.
Employment: Lawyer in private practice; former assistant city prosecutor.
Family: Parents, Eugene and Darlene Yavorcik; brother, Matthew.
Priority: Fixing the county’s dysfunctional criminal justice system, crime reduction and safe neighborhoods.
