Monkey bread recipe will make sweet treat

Dear Heloise: I would really like to have the recipe for monkey bread. I seem to have missed it when it was printed. Can you help me out? Donna Bellefontaine from Florida

Donna, this is tasty and easy to make. We call it Heloise Office Monkey Bread. To make it, you will need:

1‚Ñ2 cup margarine or butter (not diet)

1‚Ñ3 cup granulated white sugar

1‚Ñ3 cup firmly packed brown sugar

1‚Ñ4 cup finely chopped nuts

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

3 (12 ounces) cans buttermilk biscuits

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Coat the inside of a Bundt pan with cooking spray, butter or vegetable oil.

Melt the margarine in a pot or bowl. Mix the sugars, nuts and cinnamon in a separate bowl. Open the biscuits, separate and cut each into 4 sections. Roll each quarter into a ball, then put into the sugar mixture to coat. Place the balls in the Bundt pan in a single layer and drizzle a little melted butter evenly over the top.

Sprinkle the remaining sugar mixture over the top and bake for 30 to 35 minutes. Be sure to let cool for a minute or two before turning the bread onto a plate and carefully removing the pan. If you leave the monkey bread in the pan much longer, it will stick and be hard to remove. Heloise

Dear Heloise: I, too, am an avid recipe collector. However, having lost many magazines and recipes through the years, I have a great solution for keeping track of recipes. I simply write the name in the margins of my favorite main cookbook, then add the recipe to the index in the back. I have never lost a recipe since I started doing this. My main cookbook also has a loose-leaf binder, and I have punched some additional card-stock pages and added them as needed. It is so nice to have all my favorite recipes in one place. Collecting recipes seems to be a popular pastime for many, including me! Many of my favorite recipes from family and friends are included in my new recipe pamphlet — Heloise’s Hot Cocoa Mix, Cookies From a Cake Mix, and Heloise’s Hot Potato Salad are just a few. For your copy, just send $5 and a long, self-addressed, stamped (59 cents) envelope to: Heloise/All-Time, P.O. Box 795001, San Antonio, TX 78279-5001. Remember, when trying a new recipe, read through it several times, set out all of the ingredients and check them off as you use them. Heloise

Dear Heloise: When I have overripe bananas that are too soft to handle, I wrap them individually in plastic wrap and freezer bags and put them in our freezer. When making banana bread, I defrost the bananas, cut off one end of the peel and squeeze the banana into the batter. Marlene Hoehn, Palmdale, Calif.
