Hubbard back in district final

JEFFERSON — Jackie Carlisle had 33 kills and seven blocks and Dawn Lingenfelter added 34 digs as the Hubbard High volleyball team advanced to its 14th straight district final with a five-set victory over Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin in a Div. II district semifinal Tuesday at Jefferson High.

“We’re proud of that,” Hubbard coach Chuck Montgomery said of the milestone. “I think it says something about our program.”

The scores were 25-15, 25-22, 22-25, 23-25 and 15-12.

Marcy Angelo had 52 assists, Lexi Starheim had 15 points, six blocks and 13 kills, Courtney Angelo had 17 points and Taylor Gasser had 18 digs and three aces for the Eagles (24-1), who will meet Mentor Lake Catholic on Thursday night.

Hubbard beat Lake Catholic in last year’s district final. When asked how many times the teams have met, Eagles coach Chuck Montgomery laughed and said, “too many.”

“They’re very good again this year,” said Montgomery. “It’s going to be a big challenge.”

Division I Boardman 25-25-25, Cuyahoga Falls 17-13-18

STOW — Kayleigh Lipke sparked the Spartans with 13 assists and nine kills in a district semifinal match at Stow-Munroe Falls High School. Monica Touvelle had 13 assists, while Stephanie Sfara scored 14 points with eight aces and she had seven kills for Boardman, which meets Stow on Saturday.

Stow defeated Fitch in the other semifinal, 25-15, 25-19, 25-17.

Division III Springfield 25-25-25, East Palestine 20-13-15

SALEM — Rachael Kennedy had 17 kills, five blocks and five points to lead Springfield (21-3) in a district semifinal at Salem High.

Ashley Davis added 13 points and 11 kills for the Tigers, who will play United at 6 p.m. Thursday for the district crown. Also for Springfield, Andria Lyons had 12 points and two aces, Larissa Santangelo had five kills and five blocks, Brooke Schrieber had four kills and two points, Kallie Rogers had two blocks, five points and 34 assists and Becka Evans four points and an ace.

United 24-25-25-26, Girard 26-11-20-24

SALEM — Olivia Bucci had eight kills and five blocks for the Indians (14-11). Chelsea Guerrieri had 12 kills and 21 digs. Bryanna Jay had four kills and four blocks.

Div. IV Aquinas 25-25-18-19-16, Lordstown 18-16-25-25-14

LISBON — The Knights (24-2) were sparked by Julianne DeChellis with eight point, 34 digs and 20 kills. Amanda Novak added eight points with three aces and Callahan Dempsey had 47 assists.

Whitney Blank led the Red Devils with 24 points. Karly Gibbs had 39 assist and Keely Chaffee had 10 kills.

Mineral Ridge 25-22-25-25, Warren JFK 14-25-22-15

LISBON — Abby Riffee scored 17 points with four aces and 14 digs for the Rams (17-8). Lea Whitmer had 15 points and 11 assists. Taylor Shiley had 16 kills and 16 blocks and Jenna Spackman had 15 assists.

Morgan Piacquadio had 10 assists and two aces for JFK (17-7). Stephanie Cervi had 16 digs and seven kills and Mara Steines had six blocks.
