Green light
Chimichurri, the herbally intense South American condiment, isn’t hard to make, but it is time-consuming, which makes Gaucho Green Chimmi-Churri a terrific go-to when you don’t have time to chop cilantro, parsley, onion, garlic — the list goes on. We sauteed it with diced turkey and onions for a Latin-style wrap but it can be used in countless ways: marinade, grill sauce, salad dressing, bread dipper, etc. Bonus points for the low calorie count (20 per tablespoon). A 12.7-ounce jar costs $12.50 in Williams-Sonoma stores.
Super soup
Campbell’s and V8 have joined forces for a wonderful line of creamy, veggie-intense soups: Southwestern corn, sweet red pepper, tomato herb, golden butternut squash and garden broccoli. An 18.3-ounce container (two servings) costs $3-$3.50 at most grocery stores.
It’s lasagna season
“The New Lasagna Cookbook” (St. Martin’s, $27.95), by Maria Bruscino Sanchez, takes the Italian comfort food in many directions, from classic (including make-your-own pasta recipes) to quick (no-boil noodles to the rescue) and incorporating vegetarian and other ethnic influences, such as sun-dried tomato and portobello lasagna and Cajun turkey lasagna. It’s sold at Barbara’s Bookstores, some Barnes & Noble stores and amazon.com.
