Giuliani criticizes Obama experience, urges Republicans to work hard to elect McCain as president

BOARDMAN — Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City mayor and one-time presidential candidate, urged fellow Republicans today to ignore the polls and keep working hard to elect John McCain as the next president.

Giuliani spoke to a crowd of about 250 people packed into the Mahoning County Republican Party headquarters here.

The most recent polls show McCain, the senator from Arizona, trailing U.S. Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, the Democratic Party presidential candidate.

“There isn’t even a choice between these two candidates,” he said.

Giuliani said Obama was the least-experienced candidate for president in the last 100 years. He said, however, that McCain is one of the most experienced and best candidates this nation has had for president during that same time period.

Giuliani criticized Obama for proposing a plan that includes the “redistribution of wealth.” He mentioned that Obama is espousing an idea of 19th century socialist Karl Marx, but when asked later by The Vindicator if he believed Obama was a socialist Giuliani said he was not.

“But he embraces some of those views,” Giuliani said of Obama.

Giuliani was to head to GOP headquarters in Warren later today.
