Woman killed in Howland mishap with pavement roller


HOWLAND — A woman was killed after her car rear-ended a Trumbull County vehicle.

Ruth Jicha, 85, of Warren, was driving west on Warren-Sharon Road, just east of North Road in the township, just after 1 p.m. Monday. Police report that her 1998 Chrysler Cirrus LXI collided with the back of a Trumbull County pavement roller operated by Robert Gatti, 44, of Hubbard, who was not injured.

The pavement roller was moving backward, compressing hot patch material.

Jicha was taken to Trumbull Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The accident is under investigation by the Warren post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
