VA Programs for homeless

GRANT AND PER DIEM: Helps community agencies provide transitional housing or service centers for homeless veterans. Can be used for vans to provide outreach.

STAND DOWNS: One- to three-day events where veterans receive food, shelter, clothing and other services. Used as a tool to reach out to homeless veterans.

VETERANS INDUSTRIES: Group homes where veterans learn new job skills and work for pay. Some of the pay is used for the maintenance and upkeep of the home.

DOMICILARY CARE: Residential treatment for homeless veterans with health problems. Average stay is six months.

HUD-VASH: Provides vouchers to enable homeless veterans to live in selected apartments where they can obtain services from VA medical facilities.

DROP-IN CENTERS: Daytime sanctuaries where homeless veterans can clean up, wash clothing and take part in therapy and rehabilitation activities.
