Corrections

•Terry Terrigno was misidentified in a story about the Austintown Fitch High football team Saturday. He tied a school record with eight pass receptions in the Falcons’ game at Uniontown Lake, and scored a touchdown.

•It was Brandon Bussard and not Shawn Bussard who rushed for 105 yards in 24 carries and one touchdown in Beaver Local’s 28-14 win over Chaney Friday, in a high school football game at Falcon Stadium. Bussard’s first name and yardage inadvertently were listed as Shawn and 195.

•Cardinal Mooney will play host to Columbus Watterson Saturday, Oct. 25, at Fitch High’s Falcon Stadium at 7:30 p.m. The game was incorrectly listed as being played at Stambaugh Stadium.

Lots of victories

ARCADIA, Calif. — Back in he saddle at age 59, Sandy Hawley led all the way aboard Tribal Chief to earn his 6,450th career victory in the Living Legends race at Santa Anita on Saturday.

Hawley and seven other Hall of Fame jockeys came out of retirement for the race that officially counted in their career totals and was specially approved for legalized parimutuel wagering.

The riders’ combined career earnings totaled more than $1.5 billion from 49,164 mounts. None of their mounts Saturday came close to matching the quality of the horses they rode to numerous Triple Crown wins over the years.

But the race was more about getting a chance to return to their previous lives for a brief time.

Ricketts aids Toronto

TORONTO — Rohan Ricketts scored two goals and Amado Guevara added one to lead Toronto FC to a 3-2 win over the Chicago Fire on Saturday.

Toronto FC kept alive its slim hopes of a postseason berth.

Justin Mapp and Cuauhtemoc Blanco scored for Chicago (12-10-7), which has already clinched a postseason berth.

With one game remaining, Toronto (9-12-8) has 35 points in 29 games, and is last in the Eastern Conference, but could still make the playoffs with a win in next Saturday’s season finale against the San Jose Earthquakes, coupled with losses from the teams ahead of them in the standings.

Charles Regatta

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Gevvie Stone of Newton, Mass., walked in the footsteps of her parents Saturday while capturing the women’s single championships on the first day of the 44th annual Head of the Charles Regatta.

Thirty-one years ago, Gregg Stone and bride-to-be Lisa Hanson captured the singles championships, and both were there to support their daughter Saturday.

There were eight course records set on the first day of competition, including the victory by Emma Twig and Juliette Haigh of New Zealand in the womens doubles, who set a record of 17:46 over the three-mile upstream course.
