Canfield bounces Hoover in OT


South Range, Howland and Mooney advanced with tournament wins.

NORTH CANTON — P.J. Stickle scored on an assist by Griffin Todd in overtime Saturday as the Canfield High boys soccer team upset second-seeded North Canton Hoover, 1-0.

Goalkeeper Mike Thomas made eight saves for the Cardinals (8-4-5) in the Division I tournament game.

Hoover (10-6-1) goalkeeper Josh Gresh made 14 saves.

Canfield will play at top-seeded Canton GlenOak on Wednesday.

South Range 3, Columbiana 2

NORTH LIMA — Andrew Edwards, Alex Baker and Andy Lacefield scored goals for the Raiders in the Div. III game.

Jordan Baker, Andrew Witmer and Joe Bieke earned assists while goalkeeper Luke Yeagley made 18 saves.

Eric Stryffler and Eric Kissel scored for the Clippers.

Howland 2, Poland 1 (OT)

POLAND — Eric Albani scored both goals for the Tigers (13-1-4). Goalkeeper Dan Miller made five saves. Isaac Weisman and Scott Heinemann earned assists.

For Poland, Ryan Storkel scored on a penalty kick while goalkeeper Cooper Kostelic made 10 saves.

Mooney 9, Salem 0

STRUTHERS — James Simon and Matt McWilson each scored two goals and two assists in the Div. II contest.

Hector Hernandez also netted two goals while Thomas Beck, Leo Hicks and Eric Martinez also scored.Jonathan Critell made one save in earning the shutout.

Salem goalkeepers Rick Samu and T. Metts combined for 15 saves.

Breanne Mincher, Alex Pizzuto and Hannah Chapella had assists while goalkeeper Heather Cozak made nine saves.

For the Raiders (7-7-3), Katelin Smith scored two goals and Mackenzie Pfeifer had the other. Abbey Ausenhemer made two assists while goalkeeper Kristine Robinson made seven saves.

Monday at 7 p.m., Springfield will play Mooney at Valley Sports in a Division II district semifinal.
