The Ursuline Center, 4280 Shields Road, a ministry of the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown, is offering the following programs. Registration is suggested but not required. Some programs carry a religious education certification or other fee. To register or secure program details, call (330) 799-4941.
Monday, 7-8:30 p.m.: “Bible Nuts and Bolts,” daily practices for reading the Bible with James Merhaut, author, national speaker, religious educator and president of the Villa Maria (Pa.) Education and Spirituality Center.
Tuesday, 7 p.m.: “Mother Teresa’s Prescription: Finding Happiness and Peace in Service” with Dr. Paul Wright, who will share his life-changing, five-year friendship with Mother Teresa of Calcutta. A free-will offering will be accepted to aid Ursuline Sister ministries, and proceeds from the sale of Wright’s book at the event will be donated to the Missionaries of Charity.
Oct. 28, 7-8:30 p.m.: “Dessert With Some Saints and Sinners,” a look at some of the people now referred to as saints or saints-to-be, with Eileen Novotny, Ursuline Center programming chairman.
Nov. 3 and 10, 7-8:30 p.m.: “Clear Out the Clutter,” a program offering tips on dealing with your clutter/hoarding problem, with Geri Jacquet, clinical counselor, associate member of Ursuline Sisters and director of religious education for St. Charles Church.
Nov. 18, 7-8:30 p.m.: “The Psalms of Your Life,” exploring the origins, types and functions of the 150 psalms, with Dr. Anita Gorman, music director of St. Michael Church, Canfield.
Advent 2008: Miniretreats and guided retreats at the center. Retreats can be arranged for a few hours, a day or a week.
Ignatian Retreat In Daily Life: The retreat, which can be scheduled at a participant’s convenience, is an introduction to Ignatian Prayer. Unlike other retreats, participants can continue with their everyday activities but must set aside 30 minutes as day for prayer and 30 to 45 minutes each week to meet with a spiritual director.
