Ozanich sixth at state golf

COLUMBUS — Kelsey Ozanich of Howland High shot 43-41-84 in a field of 12 individual qualifiers after round one Friday at the Division I girls state golf tournament at the Ohio State University Gray course.
Ozanich was tied for sixth place with Maddie Keefe of Cleveland St. Joseph Academy. Samantha Swinehart of Lancaster was first as she carded 36-35-71.
Mason (307) led the team competition. Cincinnati St. Ursula Academy (319) was in second place in the 12-team field.
The Canfield boys team is in 12th place with a 362 score as round one was competed at OSU’s Scarlet course.
The Cardinals’ Nick Hardy shot 89, Joe Miladore 88, Bob Eddy 89, Billy Loomis 96 and Mark Schimmel 98.
Dublin Jerome (323) was in first place and Cincinnati Moeller (325) was second.
The second round got underway this morning at 9 a.m.
Boardman’s Jeskos win, lose
COLUMBUS — Sisters Carolyn and Ann Jesko of Boardman defeated Olivia Ott and Gabriela Collazo of Columbus Bishop Watterson 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in a girls Div. I state tennis tournament doubles match Friday at OSU’s Stickney Tennis Center.
The Spartans’ duo were then eliminated by Ashleigh Witte and Amanda Lin of West Chester Lakota West, 6-1, 6-4 in a quarterfinal match.
In Div. II singles competition, Emily Dawson of Beaver Local was eliminated by Brooke Trine of Ontario 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 in a first round match.
Division I and II singles and doubles semifinals began today at 9 a.m., with championship and consolation matches to follow.
