Led by Smith, Eagles clinch tie for ESC title
THOMPSON — Marquel Smith scored three touchdowns and rushed for 184 yards to lead Youngstown Christian to a 49-6 victory over Ledgmont.
The win clinches a tie for first place in the East Suburban Conference for the Eagles (7-2, 5-0 ESC).
Smith’s 19 carries included TD runs of 44, 3 and 2 yards.
John Pecchia completed 7 of 14 passes for 184 yards. Pat Durkin caught three of them for 102 yards.
Lake 49, Fitch 14
UNIONTOWN — Tyler Crowl had a big game and Lake rolled to an easy win.
Crowl finished with 345 yards rushing and six touchdowns, both marks tying school records. Lake finished with 547 total yards to Fitch’s 139.
The Falcons (4-5, 1-5 Federal League) were led by quarterback Jon Ballard, who finished with 183 yards passing on 17-of-29. That included an eight-yard touchdown pass to Jim Terrigno. Ballard also ran for the Falcons other touchdown.
Mathews 21, Southington 12
VIENNA — Brent Jackson ran for 196 yards and scored two touchdowns.
Jackson carried the ball 39 times for the Mustangs and was responsible for two of their three scoring drives. The third score came on a 52-yard touchdown pass from Jake Swank to Seth Paddock in the second quarter.
Swank completed one pass on four attempts for the 52 yards and score.
Wildcats quarterback Brad Sherwood completed 9 of 19 pass for 117 yards and running back Jimmy Rasey rushed for 190 yards on 25 carries.
Teammate Cody Roosa scored in the second quarter and finished with 39 yards on eight carries. Rasey scored for Southington in the third quarter.
West Branch 13, Carrollton 0
CARROLLTON — West Branch scored twice on the ground. The first score came when running back Eric Rogel ran a 6-yard touchdown in the second quarter. The second came when backfield mate Eric Bates ran 65 yards for the touchdown. Bates finished with 88 yards on 10 carries while Rogel finished with 60 yards on 11 carries.
Carrollton quarterback John Lowdermilk threw for 120 yards, completing 10 of 22 attempts with three interceptions. Running back Shiloh Neice finished with 93 yards on 27 carries. Dylan Peoples led all receivers with 59 yards on six catches.
