HUBBARD — The search for a missing woman has ended in tragedy for a township family.

Township police found the body of 56-year-old Carole Vargo in a wooded area to the rear of her home Thursday afternoon.

“She was a good distance away from the home in a wooded area. There is no suspicion of foul play. Mrs. Vargo did have a history of mental illness, but we are not sure how much of those details the family wants to discuss right now,” said Police Chief Todd Coonce.

Vargo had been missing since Oct. 9.

Detective Mike Begeot said Vargo, whose home is on the eastern part of the township near the Pennsylvania line, told her son she was going shopping in Grove City, Pa., with friends on what was the last day she would be seen. The trip to Grove City fell through, however, Begeot said.

Coonce said an autopsy was conducted Friday by the Trumbull County Coroner’s office, but no official report has been submitted. He said the cause of death may be suicide, but police will not make any official determination until an official coroner’s report has been made available.

“We are not sure, but when we get the report to determine if this is a suicide, which it appears to be, we will make an official determination at that time,” Coonce said.

Calls to Vargo’s family Friday afternoon were not returned.
