And this one goes to the Irish
Mooney Vs. Ursuline 2008
By Jon Moffett
YOUNGSTOWN — After a victory earlier in the season, junior linebacker Jamel Turner said he didn’t see anyone beating the Ursuline High School football team.
So far, Turner and the Irish have backed up their talking.
Ursuline has won nine consecutive games this season. The crown jewel of the season was Friday night’s 10-7 victory over Cardinal Mooney at Youngstown State University in the 50th annual clash of the archrivals.
Turner was all over the field, leading the Irish defense to shut down the high-flying Cardinals for the majority of the game. Turner forced a fumble with a minute left in the first quarter, and was around the quarterback all night, sacking him on two occasions.
The Irish held the Mooney offense scoreless until there was 1:23 left in the game. The defense also forced five turnovers.
Turner said the attitude of the entire defense is what propelled the Irish to their first win over Mooney in six years.
“We’ve got to have a swagger coming out of that locker room,” Turner said. “We’ve got to believe that nobody can score on us.”
