Hillary Clinton at YSU for Obama campaign

YOUNGSTOWN — New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, who was last here on her own presidential campaign — and won big in the Mahoning Valley and Ohio, returned today to swing her supporters over to Democratic nominee Barack Obama.

About 700 people were at Youngstown State University’s Beeghly Center to hear Clinton.

“For two years I and others said people can’t pay their mortgage. I traveled Ohio with your governor, we heard about predatory lending,” Clinton said. “Well, President Bush and John McCain didn’t seem to pay any attention — but when the crisis hit Wall Street, all of a sudden they snapped to attention.”

Clinton talked about the bank bailouts then asked: “What about millions of Americans losing homes and jobs every day?”

She said, “Make sure Republicans lose the White House in November.”

She touched on the ripple effect of the plunging stock market by saying people are afraid to check their 401ks.

The former First Lady, reflecting on her tour of the General Motors Lordstown plant during her own campaign for president, said: “Wouldn’t it be nice to have a president who cared about manufacturing?”

She said the Republicans have no answers.

She said her new slogan reflects what the election is all about: “Jobs, baby, jobs.”
